Pricing

How pricing works

A wallcovering quote is built from the wall and the paper, not from a rate card. Here is what moves the number.

  • What decides the price

Three things move it most: how much paper the room takes, how much the wall needs first, and how hard the paper is to hang.

    • Wall area, ceiling height and the number of drops

    • Pattern repeat, which decides how much paper is wasted

    • Wall condition: old paper, skim coat, priming

    • Paper type: nonwoven, traditional, grasscloth, mural

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

The written quote lists the walls, the prep, the paper if we order it and the hanging. It leaves out what we can't see until the old paper is off.

    • Included: measure, roll count and wall prep, line by line

    • Included: hanging, trimming and cleanup

    • Not included: repairs found behind old paper

    • Not included: work on fixtures and wiring

  • What happens at the visit

Kate or Elouise comes to the wall with a tape, a level and a moisture meter, checks the surface, counts the drops and looks at the room's light. A photo by text can come first.

    • Inside our service area the wall check is part of the quote

    • Outside it, any trip fee is stated before we book and credited to the job

  • Paper, and who buys it

You or your designer can buy the paper, or we can order it. Either way the quote shows the roll count and the extra the repeat needs.

    • Paper is quoted separately when we order it

    • Dye lots are checked when the rolls arrive

  • If the job changes

A change, such as a second room or a wall that needs a skim coat, is priced in writing before we do it.

  • When you get the number

In writing, after the wall check, as a fixed price for the work listed. The quote says how long the number stands and how payment is scheduled.

Pricing questions

Do you charge by the roll?

No. We charge for the work on the wall. The paper is a separate line that you pay or that we order for you.

Can I get a number before the wall check?

We can give a range from a photo and the room's size. The number you can rely on is the written quote after the wall check.

Does a large repeat cost more?

It can. A large repeat uses more paper and takes longer to match, and the quote shows both.
