Questions

Before you call, or after you read the quote

How long does a room take?

A powder room or small bath is usually one day. A dining room, hall or stairwell can take two or more. The written quote gives a range of days, not a promised date.

What is on a written quote?

The walls and their heights, the roll count with the extra the repeat needs, the wall prep, the hanging, any removal, the install days and a payment schedule.

What does the quote not include?

Repairs we can't see until the old paper is off, moving large furniture, and work on fixtures and wiring. A change is priced in writing before we do it.

Do I need to move furniture or leave the house?

You don't need to leave. Light pieces we move; large furniture is moved by you or someone you choose, and we cover what stays in the room.

Is my house a concern if it was built before 1978?

Federal rules (the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting rule) apply to paid work that disturbs paint in homes and child-occupied buildings built before 1978. Taking old paper off or sanding a wall can disturb paint, so tell us the age of the house when you call and we will ask again at the wall check. The firm's certification number is on the Credentials list, and terms for any work on an older house are in your written quote.

Who buys the paper, and which brands do you hang?

You, your designer or we can buy it. We hang most makers' paper and follow each maker's instructions. We don't sell one brand.

Can you paper over paint or old wallpaper?

Over sound, clean, sealed paint, yes. Over old wallpaper we don't, because seams and texture show through and the paper can lift.

Will the paper work in a bathroom or kitchen?

Often, with a working fan and a sealed wall. It depends on the paper, so ask us before you order, and read the maker's care sheet.

What prep is included, and what costs extra?

Filling dents, sanding and priming or sizing are in the quote, named. Skim coat over texture and repairs behind old paper are separate lines.

How do you protect floors and furniture?

We cover floors with paper and plastic, cover what stays in the room and bag scraps as we go.

How much extra paper should I order?

It depends on the repeat and the room. We give a roll count with the extra the pattern needs, so you order once.

What does your work cover?

A seam that lifts or a pattern that does not match is ours to fix. Terms, limits and exclusions are in your written warranty, and the paper itself is covered by its maker.

Can you help me choose a paper?

We can't choose for you, but we can tell you how a paper behaves on your wall. Hold samples to the wall in the room's own light before you order.

Do condos and rentals need approval?

Often. Check your building's or landlord's rules first. We can write a short note describing the work and the paper for the building.

What about paste and paper smell?

Ask us for the maker's product data sheets for the paper and the paste. We read them before we mix, and we will share them.

How do I pay, and when?

The quote has a payment schedule: a deposit to hold the dates and the balance when the walk-through is done.

Still have a question?

Call, text or send a photo of the wall.
